KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian-made film worthy of an Oscar nomination? You read it correctly, folks.
Datuk Seri NajibTunRazak hinted that work is underway for the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to direct a world-class film which is expected to be ready in three years’ time and worthy of a nomination from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, or better known as the Oscar.
“This is a commendable effort which can traject the country to be at par with other nations known for their creativity in making world-class and internationally acclaimed films.
“It is not too far-fetched to say that Malaysia is set to offer creative works valued and sought after by the world,” he said at the launch of Malaysian Film Expo at the KL Convention Centre.
His speech was read by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.
Najib said the Government had come up with the National Creative Industry Policy in 2011 to give the industry a bigger push so that it could generate revenue up to RM7.2bil a year and provide employment to 50,000 people by 2020.
