A significant increase in water temperature (rho ¼ 0.28, pvalue
< 0.001) and salinity (rho ¼ 0.25, p-value < 0.001) was
reported between 1991 and 2009, based on the filtered data series.
A significant increase in densities of all marine juvenile fish species
was also noted throughout the same period (Fig. 2). Merlangius
merlangus and Argyrosomus regius were absent from the samples
before 2003 and the densities of Engraulis encrasicolus, Sprattus
sprattus and Solea solea were particularly low at the beginning of
the data time series. Dicentrarchus labrax densities were highly
variable over the studied period.
