Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have been playing an
important role in high performance drive systems. However, most of the PMSMs used
in the Thai industries have been imported. To reduce such import, there is the need to
develop technical knowhow on the design and construction of the PMSMs. This
thesis takes the first step towards this direction.
In general, the design of a PMSM involves the design of both stator and rotor.
Because of technical constrains on the construction of the stator, the thesis has
focused only on the design and construction of the permanent magnet rotor, while the
stator structure has been taken from an existing 1-Hp induction motor without
changing the winding.
