Inland,your touring route takes you towards World Heritage wilderness in the Cradle Mountain Lake St Naional Park.Along the way,call in to Sheffield,where the area’s history is painted in murals on the town’s heritage buildings.
The famous skyline of Cradle Mountain rises above lakeside rainforests where you can explore a network of easy walking tracks.
South west from Cradle,head towards the wild West Coast,passing the mining towns Rosebery and Zeehan before reaching Strahan,picturesque fishing port on a quiet corner of Macquarie Harbour. This is your base for exploration-by cruise boat to the Gordon River or by seaplane flying across rugged mountain ranges and landing high on the Gordon’s glass surface,before taking an unforgettable walk into the riverside rainforest to see waterfalls and ancient Huon pines.
Between the west coast and the capital city of Hobart, tack a break at the spectacular Lake St Clair – cruise the lake on Australia’s highest ferry trip or walk the first half – hour or so of the famous Overland Track, which threads through mountain scenery to Cradle Mountain
