Integrating technology into the classroom has been a major focus across all subject areas in recent
years, and science is no exception. Since 1999, the official position of the National Science Teachers’
Association has been that “computers should have a major role in the teaching and learning of
science” (National Science Teachers Association, 1999). Research has shown that particular types of
technology tools may be especially effective in teaching scientific thinking and habits of mind.
