In comparison, the impact strength of a G10 woven E-glass epoxy laminate (Mf = 55% according to [43], so Vf 37%) is around 747 J/m [29]. Chamis et al. [44] have measured an impact energy of 757 N-cm for a unidirectional S-glass epoxy at Vf = 48.6%, corresponding to an equivalent impact strength of 958.2 J/m when dividing this energy by the width of specimen they used. At 880 J/m for the actual flax-PLA at Vf = 44.3, superior to G10 fiberglass board and almost equivalent to UD S-glass epoxy, we can say that once again the properties reported for the flax/PLA and flax-paper/PLA composites demonstrate their potential.
