Over the years different methodologies have been presented for the qualitative and quantitative determination of VOCs. There is no published method using headspace gas chromatography with a flame-ionization detector (HS GC-FID) to analyze 11 volatile substances with such different physicochemical properties–for instance, molecular weight between 32.04 g/mol (methanol) and 119.38 g/mol (chloroform) and boiling points between 20.2 8C (acetaldehyde) and 138.5 8C (p-xylene).
