Figure 5.8 to identify supply-side gaps, the bounds that give rise to them, and proposed (or ongoing) actions to close gaps. importantly, Figure 5.9 also allows for entries denoting whether the planned or ongoing actions also create other, unintended gaps (think about our sidebar on music retailing; there, a misguided effort to close demand-side gaps by reducing CD prices merely created other gaps on the supply side rather than solving the problem). Ideally, after a suitable period of time, the analysis should be revisited to see whether the predicted results have, in fact, been achieved-that is, the analyst should be held accountable for the suggested changes in the channel.
