The oil and gas sector is the backbone of Brunei Darussalam’s economy, accounting for 67.7% of GDP and 95.6% of total exports in 2011 (DEPD, 2012, p. 8). Brunei Darussalam is the fourth-largest oil producer in South-East Asia and the ninth-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in the world (BEDB, 2011).
