Job Description:
The Dallas Morning News currently has an opening for a
Directory of Photography. This person will set the tone
and direction for the Photo/Video department. This
person is responsible for directing operations to ensure
production of interesting, entertaining, and timely
photographs and videos that enhance the visual quality
of the Dallas Morning News on all digital and print
platforms.
Hires, develops and motivates photographers and
videographers to make sure there is quality
performance, job satisfaction and high productivity
in the department on all Dallas Morning News
platforms including social media.
Represents department at daily, weekly and special
event editorial planning and budgeting meetings
Collaborates with section editors, reporters and
photographers and videographers to get the best
photo and video result for each story
Stays abreast of developing technology and trends
in photojournalism on all platforms.
Establishes a tone and direction for photo and video
coverage to attract readers and users on all Dallas
Morning News platforms.
Oversees departmental budget
Ensures coordination between the photo/video
department and other news and company departments to
optimize total productive effort.
Interprets and implements company and departmental
policies to ensure adherence with management
decisions.
Pitches in as a photo editor as needed
Consults on interactive presentations
Job Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in photography, film or a
related field.
Experience: Ten plus years of photography experience
required. Previous supervisory experience required.
Skills: Ability to motivate and lead a team of talented
photojournalists.
Knowledgeable in how to work within a CMS for a digital
platform along with a CMS for a print platform.
Picture editing experience using PhotoShop,
PhotoMechanic,
Lightroom and a Photo CMS.
Must participate on social media platforms.
