Previously we like to mention that a huge amount of samples
will be ground with our laboratory equipment. Traces of
uncommon elements might be found in prepared samples. If
a trace elemental analysis should follow the comminution, we

analysis of all grinding materials are listed.
The first sample of PIG iron uses to be very hard. We don’t
recommend using tempered steel, nor agate, silicon nitride or
manganese steel as mentioned in the filled questionnaire.
We recommend using hardmetal tungsten carbide (WC) to
avoid damages on grinding materials for such a hard sample.
The other alloy samples might be grindable with tempered
steel as option. Longest durability of grinding material will be
given with tungsten carbide.
PIG iron sample will be ground first.
We pre ground the sample with smallest gap setting 1,0 in
standard geometry. The complete sample got ground within 4
seconds. No residues use to be left inside the grinding
chamber. A grinding of higher amounts of sample is still
possible.
Because a few particles can pass the gap with ~ 3 mm
thickness, we separated half of sample and ground a further
time with changed geometry setting (see result 2) to achieve
a better fineness.
