During the paddy reaping season I was asleep in the field hut one night when round about midnight three friends from Kalawthaw village and a cousin of mine came and woke me up. They told me that several bullock carts carrying paddy from the fields to Kamawet village were on the road and wanted to know if I would join them in holding up the carts and making off with the paddy. I told them I had no stomach for such an undertaking, but they would not take no for an answer. I kept protesting, but they insisted, saying that they needed my help. Finally the fact that my cousin was a party to the proposed robbery decided me and I threw in my lot with them.
