In this paper, optimal coordination of distance to overcurrent relays for a multi-source and multi-looped system is developed. Since, distance relays are main protection relays in sub-transmission system. So, integration of distance relays coordination with DOCRs coordination has been also performed. Differential evolutionary algorithm (DE) with hybrid mutation technique algorithm is used for optimal coordination of distance to overcurrent relay. Time dial setting (TDS) and plug setting (PS) of backup overcurrent are optimized. Coordination time interval (CTI) between zone -2 setting and backup operation of overcurrent relay at critical points are optimized. Result is compared with optimized with obtained from the genetic algorithm.
