1. Visit a local hotel property in your community that is considered a resort or a special lodging establishment and determine whether or not if could be repositioned as a lodging establishment in any of the categories discussed. Explain how this repositioning might take place.
2. Contact two properties from one of categories of lodging in cluded in this chapter and request samples of the literature they provide to prospective guests. What is characteristic of the message they are attempting to communicate about the experiences they provide?
3. Visit a lodging business included in one of the categories described in this chapter and discuss with a department head at this property those factors that are key to the success of the property. Compare this interview with what you have learned about hotel operations thus far and contrast the differences, if any.
