1
Collect a selection of dry fallen leaves and press them flat, either by placing them in a heavy book for approximately one week or by using a Microfleur (a microwave flower press).
2
Spray both sides of the leaves with silver or gold paint to achieve a metallic look.
3
Sand the frames lightly, give them a coating of gesso primer, then spray them silver.
4
Once the frames are dry, apply a coat of crackle medium. This will allow some of the silver/gold to show through the top coat.
5
Now you're ready to paint. We chose paint colours to suit our autumn theme. Water the paint down a little and then apply it, using a stabbing motion to roughen up the surface. Make sure that you can see the silver or gold through the crackle medium. Allow to dry, then varnish.
6
Cut some coloured cardboard to the size of the glass of the frame.
7
Arrange the leaves to your liking on the cardboard and then glue them down.
To buy all the materials listed here, it will cost about $15 per frame.
