• The sonnet was written in the Elizabethan Age which is the golden age of writing. Writers tried to create their personal great work.
• After the War of the Roses, many noble families are fallen. It leads to freeing the slaves. The slaves become merchants and so on. People are support to sail the world for colonization, trading and gaining knowledge.
• People were tired of gloomy world, and they want to replace it with a rosy one. (The Renaissance = Rebirth, the age of Rebirth) This soon manipulated the number of artists and writers.
• England broke free from Rome and has her own religion which is not really strict as the Catholic Church in Rome. This encourages writers to create their master piece freely.
• Shakespeare wrote the poem in realistic way. He mocks the hyperbolic poems written at the time. The poem shows the freedom of thoughts to the readers.
• Most poets at that time describe their mistress with the ideal image of Venus. That’s why Shakespeare broke through with his realistic metaphor, yet he made it sound more Romantic.
• Queen Elizabeth is a writer herself, so people are encouraged to write.
• Noble men are looking good with writers around them. (Patronage system) The greater that writer is, the better they’re treated by the society.
• Writings are subjected to humanity and freedom. The main interests are no longer pinned to god.
