I was sitting on the beach soaking up the sun. As I was sitting in my beach chair reading my favorite novel “The Great Gatsby,” I noticed something in the ocean. I saw a shark fin. There were children in the water with their parents swimming. I didn’t want to cause a panic so I gently placed my book down and with a quick discreet pace walked over to the life guard. By the time I reached the life guard a woman noticed the shark fin in the ocean and screamed “shark in the water”! Now the panic began. Everyone was rushing out of the water screaming and panicked. The life guard made an announcement for everyone to clear the water. He was a little too late. Everyone was out of the water by now. People were scrambling on the beach not knowing what to do. I went back to my beach chair which was knocked down in the chaos. I picked up my chair and book and stood there calmly. The beach patrol finally came. As they were patrolling the water in their speed boats they discovered it was not a shark, but a toy fin floating in the water. All that panic for nothing. All that was going on in my mind was; “boy, I’m glad I didn’t get a chance to tell the life guard. What a fool I would have made of myself.” An announcement was made that it was a false alarm and everyone could return to the water. Most people did, but there were still some that were afraid. As for me, I opened up my beach chair sat back down, and continued reading my book.
