Using polysaccharides as templates for the preparation of AgNPs
has shown to be quite effective, since they are ecofriendly, cost
effective, biocompatible, biodegradable and easily processed into
different hydrogel shapes. From the represented review, it could
be summarized that, polysaccharides were firstly applied as stabilizers
for the preparation of silver nanoparticles; however, recent
researches were interested in application of polysaccharide macromolecule
as a reducer and stabilizer concurrently by making some
of chemical modifications, in order to increase the solubility,
reducibility and accessibility of polysaccharide building units. The
most recent researches were focused in the preparation of merely
silver nanoparticles using removable polysaccharide blocks such
as cellulosic fibers. Application of AgNPs based on these findings
may lead to valuable discoveries in various fields such as medical
devices and antimicrobial agents.
