The Thai government will distribute black T-shirts to low-income earners free of charge so they can mourn King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Following the death of the 88-year-old king on Thursday, shoppers flocked to buy black clothing, setting off a shortage.
The government will commission apparel factories to make black T-shirts. The shirts will be handed out at government banks nationwide.
The government will spend nearly 12 million dollars to produce shirts for 8.3 million people.
The government warned retailers on Monday not to profit from the shortage by charging more for black clothing. Some shops have reportedly doubled prices.
