The results showing that students considered the information literacy
and IT skills they learned as important for completing their inquiry-based
projects are in accord with the findings of previous studies showing the
importance of technology in completing schoolwork (Bowler et al., 2001).
The importance of information literacy and IT skills goes beyond the
academic domain. Experts have claimed that these competencies have
become “a prerequisite for participation in society and the work force”
(U.S. 21st Century Workforce Commission, 2000).
