Discrepancies between patient perceptions of most important
caring behaviors and those most frequently attended to
by the nursing staff indicate that most items attended to by
nurses less frequently (five items ranked fourth, fifth, sixth,
eighth, and ninth and four items ranked second, third, seventh,
and tenth) correspond with the teaching/learning
subscale and helping/trust subscale, respectively. This was
also found by a study on patient satisfaction receiving home
nursing care (Riccio, 2000), in which patients rated the professional
aspects of nurses very high but were dissatisfied
with their instructions.
