Functional Mix
For the functional mix map the
existing planning zones have been
adapted to the mixed-use triangle
(Nes et al. 2012) designed to help
an understanding of how traffic
flows between parts of the city that
are primarily devoted to living (red),
working (blue) and visitation
(yellow), plus the mixes between
them. Only the central city shows a
rich mix of all three primary
functions at present, with largely
residential suburbs extending
between 20-50 km from the
centre. The yellow zones of
visitation include activity centres,
parks, beaches and airport. The
work/visit zones (green) are
primarily educational but include
the airport.
