From the analyses, it was clear that the experience
of taking part in a physical activity like dancing was
rewarding for all the participants in some way or
other. It was of special importance that their selfawareness
unexpectedly developed. They expressed
how the movements relating to emotional experiences
led to a deeper understanding of the self
and was a point of departure for personal growth. It
was as though consciousness, which had been fi lled
with experiences during a lifetime, was expanded by
doing something they had never done before. The
stories could be about organizing events in life so
that they were easier to grasp and understand, or
about just one event that was signifi cant in some way
or other; the experience surprised some and frustrated
