The fabricationandcharacterizationofbovinehydroxyapatite(BHA)andceriumoxide
(CeO2) compositesarepresented.CeO2 (at varyingconcentrations1,5and10wt%)were
added tocalcinatedBHApowder.Theresultingmixtureswereshapedintogreen
cylindrical samplesbypowderpressing(350MPa)followedbysinteringinair(1000–
1300 1C for4h).Density,Vickersmicrohardness(HV),compressionstrength,scanning
electron microscopy(SEM)andX-raydiffraction(XRD)studieswereperformedonthe
products. Thesinteringbehavior,microstructuralcharacteristicsandmechanicalproper-
ties wereevaluated.Differencesinthesinteringtemperature(for1wt%CeO2 composites)
between 1200and1300 1C, showa3.3%increaseinthemicrohardness(564and582.75HV,
respectively). Compositespreparedat1300 1C demonstratethegreatestcompression
strength withcomparableresultsfor5and10wt%CeO2 content (106and107MPa)which
