One of the most popular and also a very famous jazz band was the Duke Eilington band. Edward “Duke” Eilington was born in Washington, D.C., in 1899 and died in New York City in 1974. He studied the piano as a young boy and later began writing original musical compositions. The first of Eilington’s European tours came in 1933. He soon received international fame for his talent as a band leader, composer. Ten years later, Eilington began to giving annual concerts at Carnegic Hall in New York City.
