Recently,
the problems concerning the global environment and solid waste management have created much interest in the development of biodegradable plastics,
which must still retain the desired physical and chemical properties of conventional synthetic plastics.
Some of the biodegradable plastic materials under development include polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs),
polylactides,
aliphatic polyesters,
polysaccharides,
and the copolymers and/or blends of these.
