Finally, our students appeared to be comfortable speaking with patients about religious beliefs and values within appropriate boundaries. They were aware of patient vulnerability during times of stress and illness, and fourth year students in particular were sensitive to their personal agendas.
In conclusion, this exploration has taught us much about students' spiritual health and their developing understanding of spiritual nursing care. Students enter the program with a strong sense of their personal spirituality, but there are lessons to be learned about broadening that view and exercising it within the realm of
diverse beliefs. Further areas for exploration will include how students can learn practical guidelines for engaging in spiritual discussions with their patients.
