LED light colors have received considerable
attention as alternatives to conventional lighting in
the poultry industry. However, most researchers have focused
on monochromatic LED light color and found that red
(R) light enhances egg production of laying hens
(Rozenboim et al., 1998; Kim et al., 2012), whereas hens lay
larger eggs under blue (B) or green (G) light (Er et al., 2007).
Arecent study using combinations of light color on broiler
breeder hens indicated that extra-retinal photo-stimulation
with R light increases reproductive performance, whereas
retinal photo-stimulation with G light combined with nonphotostimulatory
R light inhibits reproduction in broiler
breeder hens (Mobarkey et al., 2010).
