Although our study duration was shorter than those of Irmak et al. and Blangsted et al., we demonstrated the effectiveness of stretching exercises on the improvement of neck and shoulder pain, and this effect was detected as early as four weeks of treatment. A previous study, performed by Weerapong and colleagues, was a before-andafter study to determine the efficacy of a computerized stretching exercise program for four weeks to reduce neck and shoulder pain in office workers. However, they could not demonstrate the improvement in either the visual analogue scale nor Northwick Park Neck Pain Questionnaire scores. This result was caused perhaps by the small sample size (11 subjects) and very low pain scores at baseline (1.8 ±2.1) in their study.
