Spiritual Dimension
"Am I Centered on and Connected With God?"
People in ministry need to develop a spiritual intimacy with God. Extremes should be avoided, such as spiritualising all problems on the one hand, and ignoring the power of the spiritual life and assessing it simply as a psychological function on the other. Is our connection with God true, or is it a performance of learned practices? Is spiritual life pursued in isolation without community? A true relationship with God should necessarily lead us to communion with those we live with and minister to. The spiritual dimension also requires that we are able to live consistently faithful to our primary commitment.
Friberg and Laaser (1998) emphasised that all the above dimensions of mature sexuality are interrelated. We need to work towards the development of each of these dimensions simultaneously. Dysfunction in one dimension affects the healthy development of the others. Conversely, if we are healthy in one dimension, there will be a positive impact on the others as well.
