Normalization of laboratory values of coagulation was achieved in as quickly as 30 minutes after administration of prothrombin complex, although in some instances reversal was not as durable as that achieved with vitamin K.
Recent studies examining prothrombin complex in trauma patients revealed trends toward improved mortality, decreased transfusion requirements, fewer complications, and shorter lengths of stay. In particular, the risk of multiorgan failure and need for mechanical ventilation were diminished with the use of prothrombin complex.
