Two research instruments were used in this research, including instruments for
data collection, and instrument for intervention. The instruments for data collection
were comprised of questionnaire for personal information, Thai Mental State Exam
(TMSE) and Thai Depression Inventory (TDI). The instrument for intervention were
aroma oil (Bergamot oil: 8 drops, Lavender oil: 8 drops in Olive oil: 30 ml) and aroma
oil massage intervention. The samples in both experimental and control groups were
interviewed to complete a pretest and posttest at week 1 and 4 by a research assistant.
Then, the data obtained were computer analyzed using the computer program.
Frequency, distribution and percentage were used to describe the demographic data.
Mean and standard deviation were used to determine depression scores. Paired t-test
and Independent t-test were used to compare mean depression scores.
