1. Multispectral – The use of multi-band aerial photography and multi-spectral remote
sensor data.
2. Multi-disciplinary - Bringing many multi-disciplinary experts together to focus on a
remote sensing image analysis or information extraction problem.
3. Multi-scale or multi-stage - The use of smaller scale (e.g., 1:80,000) to very large
scale (e.g., > 1:10,000) and in-situ field investigation. Each scale of imagery provides
unique information that can be used to calibrate the others
4. Multi-temporal – Investigation obtains more than one image (multi-date). Monitoring
the phenomena through time allows us to understand the processes at work and
develop predictive models
