Dear Albert
I am pleasently surprised that the mat concept can be turned into furniture and even lighting products. I have the following comments: -
1. At the present moment, the “standard” link profile at the bottom of the mat is an elastomer and has very high elasticity (and elongation). This is to ensure that it sits “firm” on the floor and follow its contour.
For some of the furniture designs, we will have to change this “backing strip” to a less flexible material with minimum elongation.
2. The Resysta slats now is around 5-6mm thick. We think it may not be strong enough as a support if the span is very wide.
3. The program for the assembly of the 1.2m wide has been delayed by around 4-5 months. We are now targeting at possibly for around 4Q 2015.
4. To connect to a steel frame, I think a modified clip with a similar concept as the End Connector may be able to work. But I am not sure how strong it will need to be to function as load bearing furniture.
It is certainly a very exciting direction on the application for the mat. Let us know the address that you need the sample to be sent. We are assuming that you will need all of them to be in natural finish.
