efforts to modify the environment. The polymers and films used
for MAP typically allow free diffusion of gases, which maintains
an equilibrium between the external atmosphere gas composition
and that inside the package due to tissue respiration (Philips,
1995). The most commonly used materials are low density (LD)
polyethylene (PE), polyethylene terephthalate (PET) polypropylene
(PP) polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene (Artes et al., 2006;
Philips, 1995; Sandhya, 2010) and chemically modified derivatives
thereof.
