.How well do you know the JENESYS2.0 programme?
On January 18, 2013, during a visit to Indonesia, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced that a new youth exchange program would be undertaken between Japan and ASEAN Member States, among other Asian and Oceanian countries, under the name “JENESYS 2.0”. Intended as a successor to JENESYS (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youth) commenced by Prime Minister Abe in 2007, the purpose of the new program is to strengthen the partnership between Japan and ASEAN Member States. The Japan-ASEAN-Oceanian Student & Youth Exchange Program is to be organized as part of JENESYS 2.0. The aim of JENESYS 2.0 is to increase potential interest in Japan and the number of foreign visitors to Japan, to assist Japan’s economic recovery as well as a global understanding towards Japanese strengths such as “Cool Japan” and its attractiveness, brands and values, and to deepen mutual understanding among the youth of Japan and the ASEAN-Oceania region.
This programme, the students’ visits to Japan and the Japan-ASEAN-Oceanian Students & Youth Exchange are aimed at deepening mutual friendships and understanding of different cultures among Japan and ASEAN Member States, Australia, New Zealand and Timor Leste. The activities under this programme include: homestays, site visits to festival-related facilities, local companies, school exchange and the Tokyo programme including visiting museums. At the end of the programme, the participants will become Youth Goodwill Ambassadors of Japan and are expected to promote their experiences in Japan in their respective home countries.
(1) Objective
The main objectives of this programme are:
To develop friendships among participating youths through the Japan-ASEAN-Oceanian Festival.
To promote further mutual understanding to foster future leaders who will contribute to closer relationships in the region.
(2) Activities
Japanese life and culture experience of staying at a home / farm / Japanese style inn
(Individually or staying with a group of 2-10 people, depending on the activity you take)
Observation related to Japanese culture facilities
Site visits to local / historical areas
Company tours
School exchange
Japan-ASEAN-Oceanian Festival
Group session and reporting session
Implementation of questionnaire
(Refer to “Annex 1: Programme Schedule”.)
2. Expectations for Participants
To promote their experiences in Japan through and after the programme as Youth Goodwill Ambassadors of Japan. As such, participants are expected to disseminate information about Japan to their family, friends and people in their communities.
To organize report sessions in schools or public places. To display posters on bulletin boards, including comments and pictures, in order to share their experiences in Japan.
To post/write comments on SNS, the Internet, public magazines and Japan-related books or brochures. To promote the attractions of and information about Japan at school and other events.
