The Fushimi-Inari-taisha Shrine is the main shrine of over 30,000 Inari shrines all across Japan, sometimes called “O-Inari-san”. It’s said to have been built in 711. The shrine grounds are focused around Inariyama and the total area of the shrine is about 87,000m2 . On the grounds is the famous “Thousand Torii” tunnel of red torii. These torii were put here by people who came to pray at the shrine for success in business. Currently it is said there are about 10,000 torii.
