This dissertation draws attention to the leadership crisis brought on by the
increasing number of administrative retirements in community colleges and the lack of
succession training programs as well as trained and qualified administrative professionals
within the college to fill these vacancies. In addition, there has been little empirical
research on the role of mid-level administrators in community college as well as the
process in which they develop their leadership skills. As administrative turnovers
increase due to retirement, there is a higher demand to focus scholarly research on the
mid-level administrators to alleviate the leadership crisis.
