In this study we report a complete sequence of a novel cps locus of
Campylobacter, and describe applicability, advantages and disadvantage
of the PCR-based method for sequencing of complex gene clusters.
We demonstrate that in some cases this procedure may be complicated
due to the presence of homologous repeating units both inside
and outside these clusters. Potential genetic variation of these
units due to recombination may contribute to genetic mechanisms
involved in structural variability of the capsular polysaccharide
(CPS).
