The selected research instrument for this study was a questionnaire. The questions in the questionnaire were selected in order to reflect a credible representation of the students’ opinions on the use of music through songs, and to understand the improvement of students’ abilities through songs learning. All items of the survey questionnaire were subdivided into two categories. One was related to the variable of “learning style”, and the “order was the opinions towards learning English using songs”.
The first part asked questions about the subjects’ background, there were two items about students’ background information. In this section, the subject had to select responses indicating their gender and age by circling one choice.
Part two aimed to elicit a representation of the subjects’ aural aptitude and their preference to certain learning styles.
The third section presented questions to uncover the subjects’ opinion on the effects of using songs on their overall English skills, the representation of the music, the level of English used, the song choice, and advantage and disadvantages of using music.
Except Item 8, all the other survey items were design in positive statement. In order to answer the questions, the students had to to select a certain level of agreement or disagreement, which consisted of 5 choices, based on a 5 point Likert Scale being: “Totally Disagree (TD)”, “Disagree (D)”,”Neutral (N)” “Agree (A)” , and “strongly agree (SA)”.
