A separately excited dc generator is a generator whose field current is supptied by
a sefarate external dc voltage source. The equivalent circuit of such a machine is
shown in Fig. 5-6. In this circuit, the voltage V, represents the actual voltage
measured at the terminals of the generator, and the current /r- represents the
current flowing in the lines connected to the terminals. The internal generated
voltage is Eo , and the armature culTent is 1o. It is clear thirt the armature current is
equal to the line current in a separately excitecl generator
