Big Business and "states rights" are responsible for pollution.
The government tries to control pollution by regulating big business but Republicans consistently complain that the government is too big and they don't have the right to regulate business, so the citizens and the planet have to suffer the effects of pollution.
Ohio is an example of the effect of "states rights" on pollution. The leaders of Ohio don't believe, or won't admit, that automobiles cause pollution so while most states have some form of pollution control involving automobiles Ohio does not. Yearly vehicle inspections aren't required in Ohio. Ohio pumps tons of untreated vehicle exhaust (carbon monoxide) into the air every day.
There should be a federal law requiring all vehicles in the U.S. to pass a carbon monoxide emissions test, it should not be left up to individual states to decide something that effects every one in America, and across the globe.
