preparation The ingot of commercial alloy with the chemical compositiongiven in Table 1 was cut into small pieces, dried, and melted in a2-kg capacity SiC crucible by using an electric resistance furnace. Then, the desired amount of pure Bi (99.99 wt%) in the form ofmetallic shots was introduced into the molten alloy. After beingheld for 10 min for complete homogenization, the Bi-containingmelt was further treated by adding different amounts of Sr inthe form of Al–10Sr master alloy. To investigate the influence ofsequential additions, Sr was first added before the melt was treatedwith different levels of Bi. The chemical analyses of all samples arereported in the remainder of the paper, obtained from samplingsfor chemical analyses using glow discharge spectrometer (LECOGDS-850A).
