Acetonitrile
and pyridine are highly flammable. Concentrated sulfuric acid is
corrosive and can cause burns. The preparation should be
carried out under a fumehood since acetonitrile, pyridine, and
3,4-lutidine are toxic, and a small amount of SO2 is evolved in
the preparation of CuI. Gloves and goggles should be worn at
all times and the MSDS of all chemicals used should be read
beforehand. Liquid nitrogen can cause frostbite and must be
handled in a well-ventilated room.
