I Could Eat a Horse
Definition: I’m very hungry
Jim got off the train to Paddington Station and hurried over to the bus stop. He looked at his watch. It was almost six-thirty. The bus didn’t come until six forty-five, so he had fifteen minutes to get some food. He was really hungry. At the office he was working on a new account, so at lunchtime he had no time to get anything to eat. Also, that morning he had been late for bus stop. The man at the sandwich shop was just closing.
“Wait,” ssaid Jim, “I need a sandwich.”
“Sorry sir, we have none left,” said the sandwich man, as he closed the door.
Jim’s stomach was grumbling as he turned back to the bus stop. He turned just in time to see his bus leave. “Oh no!” thought Jim, “I’ll have to wait for another hour now and there’s nowhere else to but food near here”
At nine o’clock Jim arrived home.
“I hope you have some food for me,” he called to his wife. “I’m so hungry, I could eat a horse.”
His wife looked at him from the kitchen and said, “Well darling, you were so late that I gave you dinner to the dog.”
“Oh no!” groaned Jim”
