Biodiesel is extensively produced and commercialized to be
used as fuel in current internal combustion engines, pure or
blended with diesel, regarding their properties are similar to those
of petroleum diesel. Its production is encouraged in several
countries based on potential positive social, environmental and
economic impacts on rural areas. In addition, raw materials for
biodiesel production, vegetable oils and fats, are considered
renewable and available in many regions around the world. These
policies justify the investment of public resources through
subsidies and tax exemptions based on the prolongation of the
availability of oil, the reduction of the negative environmental
effect of gas emissions from fossil fuels and the generation of
employment in the rural sector
