The participants (all of whom were London inhabitants) were recruited either via face-to-face interaction in public spaces in London or via virtual interaction through the Face Book social network. The study was conducted in non-crowded places
where the participant could have a seat. Consent was sought from participants before they started the task. No prize or other incentives were given, other than informing them of the results of the study if they provided an email address. There were
two inclusion criteria: that individuals should have lived in London for at least two years and that they should be in the age range of 18–65 for ethical considerations; having more exclusion criteria was not essential. Participants were asked to confirm
that they met these criteria before starting the task. The limited sample size was due to the mixed methods used in the project. Ethical consideration was not an issue within this context, because all the participants were anonymous and voluntary
and no vulnerable people were included. The data was collected in public spaces (physical and virtual) and all participants were advised that their input was anonymous with confidentiality guaranteed. Pearson correlation coefficient revealed that non-auto modes are highly correlated with one another (Table 2).
