The demand for natural pigments in food processing sector has increased owing to their
neutraceutical attributes. In
present study attempts have been made to extract and purify
brown coloured pigment from
Trichoderma viride
by using
potato dextrose broth
. The
pigment was purified by using silica gel column chromatography and it was analyzed by
HPLC and GC
-
MS.
Trichoderma
viride
produced brown colored pigment identified as
furfural. Phytotoxicity study showed its non
-
toxic nature on germination of
Phaseolus
aureus
Roxb
.
The brown coloured pigment i.e. furfural produced by
Trichoderma viride
has
possible applications in foo
d industries and also will reduce the problem related to use of
artificial synthetic pigments.
