So when asked by Taylor's of Harrogate coffee company to make something to get people out of bed my immediate thought was all the comments on FISH (furze's invention show) that had asked for a flip up bed (just like Wallace and grommit) or some sort of crazy wake up alarm, now as i love W&G i went for the bed.
Now compered to somethings i've made this is a really simple build in terms of its a hinge and a ram, but to raise the bed to a good height the rams would have to be quiet long so fitting them under a standard height bed would mean they would be pushing quiet far down mattress meaning my 80kg was going to take some power to lift.
With this in mind i knew i had to have a good bore on the rams, bigger than most of the shelf types but this is me, i wanna make my own and have stubbled on a fantastic set up which I'm very pleased with.
Below is pictures of the parts unassembled but in essence its a 4" pipe with 4" soil pipe test bungs as the piston/seal etc, the great thing about these is you can make the tighter by adjusting them and as in my case i could possibly want to hit them with 10bar air pressure this was handy, one thing i did do to them though is once tensioned i pumped some silicone behind seal as the did fold over on a high reassure blast but even though this happened the ram still functioned it just lost a bit of performance.
So with these doing the job the rest was simple, a cannibalised air compressor some solenoids and a switch.
Does it have the power......See video below
