On objective, managerial grounds, endorsed by constituent professional groups within NSOs, organizational performance by Hellenic NSOs can be criticized. However, it is clear that a full understanding of the ability of NSOs to produce satisfying outputs requires special attention to the institutional context and conditions influencing their operation. Theoretical approaches such as institutionalism (DiMaggio and Powell, 1991; Meyer and Rowan, 1991) and resource-dependence theory (Pfeffer and Salancik, 1978; Pfeffer, 1981) are particularly applicable not only to the endurance of NSOs’ institutional conformity, but also to the extent to which NSOs do or do not exhibit resistance to institutional pressures (Oliver, 1991).
